More than 9.11 crore income tax returns were filed for Assessment Year 2024-25 (as of 28 February 2025). Of the 7.28 crore returns filed by the 31 July due date, about 5.27 crore (72%) were under the new tax regime and 2.01 crore (28%) under the old regime, confirming the new regime as the default choice for most taxpayers.
